EREF is assisting the Europe Union to change the European energy sector to a sustainable sector with an efficient renewable energy use. To achieve the goal of delivering at least 20% of the total energy consumption from renewable energy sources, the EU has been strengthening its efforts to generalize the production of electricity from renewable energy sources. However, the heating and cooling and transport sector still account for a large part of the EU energy consumption and more efforts should be made in these sectors. The climate goal of the EU would guarantee a decrease of the carbon emissions and thus a reduction of the greenhouse-effects. Beside this environmental perspective, the renewable sector represents an important economic factor and creates high quality jobs on local levels.
